Many health and wellness professionals sort of cringe when they think of planning for success. They know they need to do it, and they feel lost without it. But they’re not really sure HOW to do it.

When I wrote my book, “Just Jump“, I walked people through a very thorough process of planning. And it works like a charm! But what if you don’t want to create a ‘traditional’ plan for marketing?

Here are three simple steps you can take right now to start YOUR planning for the New Year:

  • Step 1 – Determine all the products and services you want to offer and how many people you want to sign up for each.
  • Step 2 – Pull out your calendar and enter everything you have going on for the year, so you know when you won’t be available, or when it’s a good time to roll out a particular service or program.
  • Step 3 – Create your promotional plan!

That’s it!

Now, if you feel there are details missing, next time I’ll talk more about your promotional plan and what that really means. But, meanwhile, you definitely can do Step 1 and Step 2! In fact, I’d love to hear how that goes!

You want to start a business. You have dreamed of this for years, ever since graduating or starting school. So what’s been holding you back?

Do this: Close your eyes and imagine you are at the edge of a huge cliff. You are looking over the Grand Canyon. There is a huge expanse of air in front of you and below you. And I am asking you to jump, spread your wings, and know that you can fly! Can you? Only YOU can answer that question. You really can do anything you want to do. It just takes will and planning.

Many times I hear from people who tell me they will contact me for help in starting up their business ‘when I’m ready’. There have also been times when these same people finally call out of desperation: Their need to ‘just do it’ has become stronger than waiting for that ‘perfect time’. And they are able to create their dream business, afterall.

Does this sound like you? Are you waiting until things are just perfect before you seriously start working on creating the business of your dreams? You have every certification you can think you might ever need. You attend every educational seminar on every topic you think people might ask you about. You’re sure there is something you are missing, however.

But what is really holding you back? Is it fear of failure? Many people are petrified that they will step up, or jump from that cliff, and fall flat on their face. They will look like a fool and feel like a failure, but imagine the regret they live with as they look back on their life and didn’t even give it a try. You will never look back and wish you had NOT taken action to live your dream. Many people do think about the things they did NOT do, however.

Yes, it is true that over 50% of the 600,000 new businesses that start each year fail in the first year. What is more important to know, however, is that many of those failed businesses didn’t even start with a serious plan before they opened their doors! No wonder they failed! Have you heard the phrase, ‘failing to plan is a plan for failure’? This means that if you don’t know where you’re going, you are unlikely to get there. Would you plan a cross-country trip without mapping out your plan? Then why would anyone consider starting a business without setting up goals, objectives and action steps to make it happen?

Fear of failure is the most often sited reason for hesitation to starting up a business. But, what people seldom talk about, which is a much more real concern is the fear of success! What if your business grows and becomes more than you ever imagined? What does THAT mean? Many people find that more frightening than failing. If they fail, they can at least go back to what was safe and easy. If they succeed, they will experience even more challenges as their business grows and becomes more than just ‘them’.

5 Simple Steps to Prosperity

I am a planner. And many of my clients are planners who also need structure. And they know what they want: a thriving, fulfilling wellness business that provides them with freedom and success.

It’s simple, really: They just need direction that will take them from chaos to clarity and prosperity. But they don’t know how to make that happen!

Here are the 5 simple steps to get started:

Step #1 – Discover your true passion. If you don’t love what you do, you will NOT see the success you envision.

Step #2 – Clarify who you most love to work with. If you don’t love them, you’re not going to be able to really identify their problems and what they most want.

Step #3 – Develop your own branded system to offer. Once you have done this, the opportunities are ENDLESS!

Step #4 – Create your calendar for success. This is where the planning begins. You have to have a plan to achieve your success. But this is also the critical area where you also plan your PERSONAL time, too, so it’s TRUE success, not just financial success.

Step #5 – Write out your systems. For every service, program and product you create, make sure you write out every step you take to move forward with it. This is one of the best steps you can take to position yourself for when you are ready for the NEXT step in your business.

3 Simple Time Success Strategies for Wellness Professionals: Step 1

3-Simple-Time-Success-Strategies-for-Wellness-ProfessionalsYears ago I really struggled with getting things done. What made it most frustrating is I HAD the time, but was getting bogged down in the voices in my own head! Yet I’ve had people for years comment about how amazed they are at all the things I do. But, it’s only really been in the last year and a half that I can still accomplish the things I want to accomplish AND take real time off to enjoy life WHILE witnessing my income increase AND witness my clients achieve great success.

Today I live in Northern Arizona and am able to hit the hiking trails 2-3 days a week, on a consistent basis. And my business continues to grow! This will be the second year I hit six figures and a big reason for that success is that I’ve become very focused and targeted in how I go about my business and how I GROW my business. Today I walk into my office with a plan, and I’m able to shut down the distractions and focus.

When you’re able to control your time the way you WANT to, you’re able to better control the revenue that flows to you.

Today I will share Step #1 of three simple time success strategies that I cover more deeply elsewhere, but they can really can make the difference between working all the time, and feeling you would NEVER really want to grow to 6 or 7 figures (because then you wouldn’t have a life) or enjoying a thriving business, while playing and having tons of fun with family and friends, and feeling fulfilled because you are not only successful but ALSO are a living model of balance for your clients.

Step #1: Create a time control plan

1) Create a separate schedule for working on the business.
I provide my clients with a grid file where they block off all the time spent on everything else (personal time, family time, meal time, sleep time, commute time, client time, etc.) and then see what’s left over. That is the “Work on the Business” time, which is the big, essential key to success.

2) Create a daily “to-do” list, broken into ‘income producing” and “non-income producing” items.
This isn’t the time to discuss hiring help, but as you progress, you should eventually be delegating OUT those “non-income producing” items.

3) Prioritize the top three “income producing” items to work on, first, each day.

4) Shut down email, Facebook, Twitter, etc., and phone.

5) Spend the allotted time, as indicated on your calendar (when you work ON the business), on JUST these three items.
If you have time left over, go to the next item on your list.

6) Work on ONE THING at a time!
Do not multi-task!

When Fear of Success Holds You Back

I hear it all the time: “I don’t really feel qualified because…..” Fill in the blank. This is the biggest reason people I talk to don’t start their business!

But what is REALLY going on?

It wasn’t by accident that I entitled my book “Just Jump“. The people I work with are already very accomplished professionals. They really do NOT need another degree or certification or more training. They need to step out of their comfort zone and take a risk… and JUMP into their dreams!

It’s only fear. Sometimes it’s fear of failure, but just as often (if not more often) it’s a fear of success! Fear of failure quite often can be chalked up to lack of knowledge or lack of focus. And these can easily be resolved.

Fear of success is another story, however. Particularly for women, if they aren’t successful with their business, they can just fall back on “Plan B”. Afterall, it’s just a dream they give up on. (!!!)

But success. Well!

Women often feel that what they will have to give up to REALLY be successful means never looking back, or falling back into the “safe” “Plan B.” Worse yet is what they might have to give up. Who they may have to leave behind. It may mean moving into the real, powerful woman they know they are, but are afraid of.

How do I know this? I’ve been there! Today I run a six-figure business out of my home office and have given up the old perspectives of what I thought I “had” to be in order to be successful. And it feels great!

Take a chance. Risk success! Don’t look back at life wishing you hadn’t held yourself back for “Plan B” in life.
